Harissa Spiced Lamb Shanks


  • 4 x Good sized lamb shanks

  • Plain flour

  • 1 x Brown onion

  • 2 x Tea spoons grated lemon zest

  • 3 x Tablespoons tomato paste

  • 350ml x Chicken stock or dry white wine

  • 1 x Teaspoon of Harissa paste or to taste - Harissa paste can be lively!

  • 6 x Heaped teaspoons of Spice Road Spices Italian Spice Blend

  • 3 x Carrots, diced

Important: Sea salt and pepper have been added to the Italian Spice Blend.

Comments: A true classic and the harissa a nice touch - Spice Roads.


Roll the lamb shanks in the flour - unsalted as the salt is in the Italian Blend. Brown quickly in a pan and then place in a casserole dish with the Italian Blend, tomato puree, lemon, harissa paste, carrots and the chicken stock or white wine

Bake in a slow oven, around 160 degrees for 2 to 2 1/2 hours depending on your oven

Suggestion, serve with couscous
